iPad 4 power button not working? Bummer. The good news is you can save time and money by repairing it yourself. The easiest way to repair your iPad 4 power button is to replace the entire power/volume button flex cable. Here's how to do it.

What you need:
  • Triangle opening tools (or guitar pics)
  • Metal opening tool
  • Pry tool
  • Spudger
  • Small Phillip screwdriver
  • Tweezers
  • Hairdryer
  • Replacement iPad 4 power/volume button flex cable

STEP 1: Use the hairdryer to heat the outside front edge of your iPad 4 to soften the underlying adhesive.
STEP 2: Insert the pry tool along the side seam and slide it around the perimeter to separate the front screen from the rear case. Use triangle opening tools to maintain separation as you go.
STEP 3: Open the front screen, like a book, to reveal the LCD screen underneath.
STEP 4: Remove the four LCD screen screws.
STEP 5: Fold the LCD screen over the front screen.
STEP 6: Use the spudger to open the screen cable lock, then disconnect the ribbon cable. You can now remove the LCD screen completely.
STEP 7: Use the spudger to open the two front screen cable locks, then remove the front screen completely.
STEP 8: Use the tweezers to disconnect and remove the front camera.
STEP 9: Use the tweezers to remove the tape over the two headphone jack assembly locks, then to open the locks. Disconnect the assembly ribbon cable from the motherboard.
STEP 10: Remove the two headphone jack screws and two ribbon cable assembly screws.
STEP 11: Use the tweezers to remove the tape over the microphone lock.
STEP 12: Use the tweezers to open the microphone and rear camera locks, and disconnect their cables.
STEP 13: Use the tweezers to remove the tape covering the rear camera.
STEP 14: Remove the two rear camera screws, then the three adjacent screws.
STEP 15: Remove the headphone jack assembly completely.
STEP 16: Remove the three power/volume button bracket screws, two screws adjacent to the power button, and the single volume rocker screw.
STEP 17: Use the tweezers and/or spudger to peel the power/volume flex cable off the side of the iPad and remove it completely.
STEP 18: Insert your replacement iPad 4 power/volume button flex cable, then follow these instructions in reverse order to reassemble your iPad 4.
