Q: How do I deliver or ship rental orders?

A: When shipping your items you can choose one of the following options.

USPS

USPS Media Mail can be sent inexpensively, albeit somewhat slowly. Media Mail can take 4-14 days.

Flat Rate boxes, sent priority mail, are a simple way to send and receive books. It can get expensive, but it is a flat-rate per shipment.

Receive more shipping discounts through the USPS by using bar codes, and/or shipping in high volume, 300 pieces or more, known as bulk rates. Bulk Rates require you to pay fees, pre-sort shipments and deliver to the Post Office you are registered with.

FedEx

FedEx Ground. FedEx Ground is a terrific choice when you?re shipping out larger items. It's designed for bigger and/or heavier packages, and its rates are well below similar services offered by the Postal Service and UPS. For example, FedEx charges almost $5 less than Priority Mail to ship a five-pound item from coast to coast. FedEx is also a convenient choice for many booksellers, especially since you can now ship from any Kinkos location. (The stores are now called FedEx Kinkos, by the way.)

UPS

UPS is a good option for shipping larger or heavier packages but can be a little costly for smaller items. UPS offers various shipping options, including standard UPS Ground, Next Day Air, Next Day Air Saver, and 2nd Day Air. You can find out more about UPS shipping and access a rate calculator at the UPS website.

Q: Who pays for return shipping, the book owner or the book renter?

A: It is up to you. You can specify who pays for return shipping in your terms and conditions. Most book rental companies offer free return shipping. If you offer free return shipping, you can either send the renter a prepaid shipping package or set up an automated account with USPS, FedEx or UPS so customers can print shipping labels to send the book back.

Q: How do I offer Free Return shipping?

A: You can offer free return shipping by setting up an account with UPS, USPS or FedEx shipping companies. Once you have an account customers will be able to print a return shipping label. They then package the book up, adhere the label and drop it off at appropriate shipping facility. It is important to use a return shipping process that includes tracking to your specific address. This provides both you and the renter with a receipt for dispute resolution.

Q: What terms and conditions should I set for my book listings?

A: Terms and conditions to consider: Who pays for return shipping? What return conditions will result in the replacement cost being charged? Can students highlight or write in the books? Most book rental companies allow some writing and highlighting. Customers returning books in unusable condition can be charged the replacement cost of the book. Free return shipping is typically offered through UPS or USPS

Your book listings terms and conditions can be unique for each book or the same for all of your listings.

Q: How do I avoid bad renters?

A: Make sure to only rent to people with a confirmed Paypal account. The Paypal email receipt will tell you if your order is from a confirmed account holder. For further verification complete a phone screening to make sure the person is using a valid phone number. Flipsy has a renter rating system to show a renter's history, to help you make a choice to rent to someone. Flipsy Membership and renter rating, with a deposit made on a rental, help provide you with enough to securely decide to whom you rent items.

Q: How does the membership rating work?

A: Member Ratings help provide vendors added security when choosing to do business with a customer. This information is collected through Flipsy to weed out bad customers and provide positive feedback to good ones. Ratings are also provided on members providing rental or purchase items. By providing accurate information on your items, quick shipping, refunding upon return, and good customer service, you will have a good rating. By returning items on time and in the condition in which you received them, you will have a good rating. To report misuse and bad practices, contact Flipsy directly.
