Though most VHS tapes are only worth around 50 cents to a few dollars, collectible tapes can go for $50 or more. Betamax tapes can be worth $20 and up. You might even hit the jackpot if you have a sought-after tape hiding on your shelves: a first release of Disney’s Dumbo on VHS can sell for up to $100, while the 1978 MEDA first release of Halloween on VHS can net up to $250. A first edition of A Clockwork Orange can net up to $1,750, for example, while a misprint of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone can command up to $55,000 or more. Star Wars books can be worth hundreds of dollars, and autographed books have sold for anywhere between $15 and $500,000. Gold and diamond values are in constant flux, so there’s no average price.
