How to find your iPad Model

On your iPad, look for the Settings app, which has a gear icon .

Where to find it:

• Home Screen: Check your home screen for the gear icon labeled Settings and tap it.
• App Library: Swipe left across all home screen pages until you reach the App Library (a grid of apps). Tap the search bar at the top, type “Settings,” and select the Settings app with the gear icon .
• Search: Swipe down from the middle of the home screen to open Spotlight Search, type “Settings,” and tap the Settings app with the gear icon when it appears.

In the Settings menu, scroll and tap General. It’s usually near the top of the list on the left side (or in the main list if your screen is narrow).

In the General menu, tap About. This opens a page with information about your iPad.

• Look for the Name or Model Name entry near the top of the "About" page. This is your iPad model (e.g., “iPad Pro 12.9-inch” or “iPad Air”).
• You might also see a Model Number (e.g., “A2898”), which is a technical identifier. To confirm the exact model, note this number and check Apple’s support website if needed (see Tips).

That’s it! You’ve found your iPad model. Write it down or share it as needed.

Plug your iPad into a Mac or Windows PC using a USB cable. Unlock your iPad and tap “Trust” if prompted.

Where to find the app:

• Mac (macOS Catalina or later): Open Finder (the face-like icon in the dock).
• Mac (older macOS) or Windows: Open iTunes (download it from apple.com if needed—look for the music note icon).

In Finder, look under “Locations” in the sidebar and click your iPad’s name. In iTunes, click the small iPad icon near the top-left corner of the window.
